The Art of Storytelling is an illustrated book telling the story of my life as an artist. The story explores my journey to becoming an artist and pursuing a career as an author/illustrator. The pages start in black and white with few details using marker and graphite. As the story progresses, the illustrations become more detailed and colorful using colored pencils and watercolor, representing my growth as an artist. The drawings are influenced by Surrealism and Pop Art, where subjects are drawn slightly out of proportion. The use of pictures, symbols, watercolor, and simple lines work together to convey a childlike daydream.
Children’s books are often our first introduction to art and literature. Identity is interwoven with the stories we hear and the stories we tell. Illustrations and words work together to create a visual text that elevates the story and makes art approachable. Everybody, young and old, has a story to tell and can use art to explore ideas and create meaning. The goal is to inspire readers to think creatively in a space where ideas are limitless.
